Winter. Night comes early. And with it, the shadows, the darkness, the cold. Ideal conditions for a bit of noir? You must have read our minds. The Grandview Library has assembled four hardboiled classics for its latest excursion into postwar cynicism. Bundle up, and let’s go for a ride.
Mondays in January at 6:30 pm.
1/7: Criss Cross (1949). A love triangle collides with an armored truck robbery. Starring Burt Lancaster.
1/14: The Woman in the Window (1944). A professor meets the femme fatal e of his nightmares. Starring Edward G. Robinson.
1/21 (MLK DAY): Odds Against Tomorrow (1959). Racial tensions explode during a bank heist. Starring Harry Belafonte and Robert Ryan.
1/28: The Big Combo (1955). A police lieutenant doggedly pursues a sadistic gangster. One of legendary cinematographer John Alton’s best works.
