The heat is on. And so is the noir. The Grandview Library has assembled a collection of classic crime pictures that’ll grab your attention and keep it that way. Afraid of getting bored to death? Why not try getting “noired” to death?

9/30: The Big Sleep (1946)
A private detective tackles a family’s mysterious troubles. Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall. Screenplay co-written by William Faulkner, based on Raymond Chandler's novel.

10/7: Crossfire (1947)
Police search for a murderer and his motives. Robert Mitchum, Robert Young, Robert Ryan. 5 Oscar nominations.

10/14: Kiss Me Deadly (1955)
Private eye Mike Hammer gets involved in an explosive case. Director: Robert Aldrich. Cloris Leachman, Maxine Cooper debuts. U.S. National Film Registry.

10/21: The Wrong Man (1956)
Alfred Hitchcock’s true story thriller of mistaken identity starring Henry Fonda.

11/4: Force of Evil (1948)
A crooked lawyer clashes with his gangster client. Director: Oscar-winning screenwriter Abraham Polonsky. U.S. National Film Registry.

11/11: Out of the Past (1947)
A small towner’s big city past catches up with him. Robert Mitchum, Jane Greer, Kirk Douglas. Considered one of the best noir films.

11/18: Gun Crazy (1950)
A gun-loving couple’s crime spree ruins their marriage. U.S. National Film Registry.
