Meeting challenges in the new year
KEEPING THE LIBRARY GREAT IN A CHALLENGING NEW YEAR
2009 was a tough year for Ohio public libraries, which saw unprecedented funding reductions from the state. Thousands of library supporters made their voices heard to lawmakers, and that made a huge difference! Still, like many libraries, the Grandview Library was forced to reduce services, staff, and hours.
2010 will be a challenging year for the Library, as we deal with these changes while facing even more financial uncertainty. We pledge to continue bringing you the best services possible, and we look forward to keeping your Library great in 2010. We cannot thank you enough for your continued support!
What’s in store for the new year?
We have received an amazing response from the community since losing nearly 1/3 of the staff, due to state budget cuts! More than ever, we are using volunteers in nearly every department. This enables our staff to be more available to patrons and to increase our quality of service to you. We couldn’t do it without you! Thank you!
- NEW COMPUTER SYSTEM
Previously accumulated funds have allowed the eight libraries of the Central Library Consortium (CLC) to bring you an updated system. Being part of a consortium also saves money by centralizing management and accounting services.
We will always have staff available to assist you and checkout for you. As an option, you will soon have the ability for self-checkout!
- PAYMENT OPTIONS
Coming soon: Pay fees and make donations by credit or debit card – in person at the Library, or online through our website.
- COLLECTIONS SERVICES
It is our fiscal responsibility to protect access to our materials for all patrons. Since tax dollars have been spent duplicating lost materials, we will use an agency to retrieve missing materials and recover overdue fines.
Enjoy free educational programs & recreational events at the Library. Many are planned with the City of Grandview Heights, including the popular Music on the Lawn outdoor concert series. Youth Services always keeps a great schedule of story times and activities. Although our events have been reduced due to state funding losses, many generous speakers & performers have made our current season great! Pick up a brochure at the Library or visit our online events calendar.
Cut costs at home by accessing the Internet at the Library. Use our Internet-ready computers in Reference, or bring your laptop and use our wireless connection.
- JOB HELP
The Library is your destination for job help resources! Use free resume software in Reference, get one-on-one career coaching, and find great job resources at the Library and on our website. As the economy struggles, we continue to team up with area libraries to provide special Job Help events.
Find out ways to get involved at the Library – volunteering, joining the Friends of the Library, donating, and more. Thank you for making the Library such a wonderful place for the community!
