Enhanced Reference spaces

Technology, study, and reading spaces have been enhanced in the Reference department on the second floor of the library, funded in part by a generous private donation.

A public technology space replaces shelved collections, which have been shifted and consolidated to a nearby shelving area, in the main area. Twenty-two updated work stations with 18 new, all-in-one computers (featuring Windows 10 with Microsoft Office and Internet) replace older computers.

Updated nonfiction book displays and reading areas featuring casual seating replace modular furniture and old computer work stations in the former public computer room.

Five new tables with chairs have been added to create more study space throughout the department.

These refreshed areas, which haven’t received updates in more than 15 years, are funded in part by a generous memorial donation. The library is grateful to the family of Louise Anderson, a patron who enjoyed the Reference department, for honoring her memory with a donation to the library.

The department now provides more public computers, work stations and spaces for patrons to bring in their own laptops and work, additional comfortable seating options, and browsable displays for materials, all while maximizing efficient use of spaces within the department.

Early Learning Backpacks

backpacksHelp your child get ready for Kindergarten by borrowing an Early Learning Backpack from the Grandview Heights Public Library (GHPL).

Thirty-one backpacks from the Early Childhood Resource Center are available from the library, thanks to a $2,139 grant from the Grandview Heights/Marble Cliff Education Foundation.

Each themed backpack includes high-quality early learning materials, books, and activities with easy-to-follow activity guides that make learning fun. Learning is supported by incorporating the four Early Learning Content Standard areas: Social Studies, Language Arts, Math and Science. Tools for social and emotional development also are provided.

GHPL and the Education Foundation have partnered to create this lending program as a way for parents and caregivers to ensure kids are ready for Kindergarten and to support Ohio’s Kindergarten Readiness Assessment. In 2015, GHPL and the Education Foundation partnered to provide GHPL’s Acoustic Guitar Lending program, which focuses on music education through hands-on collaborative learning for all ages.

Backpacks are available and on display in Youth Services on the lower level of the library.

Backpacks circulate for 28 days, are available for checkout only at GHPL, and must be returned to GHPL. Overdue fines are 10 cents per day.

Memorial Day Parade goes by the library

2015_PopUp_Library_Kevin_Weismann_costumeThe Grandview Heights/Marble Cliff Memorial Day Parade will take place Saturday, May 28, at 10 am.

The parade begins 10 am at Cambridge and First Avenues and continues down First Avenue to Oxley Road.

The route will impact access to the library during the morning.

  • Some streets near the library will be closed approximately 9-11:30 am.
  • Access the library from the south or park and cross First Avenue by foot during this time.
  • The parade should be past the library by 10:30 am.

JUNE 2: Grandview Chocolate Walk

Chocolate_Walk_2015_rotateEnjoy a walking tour of Grandview with chocolate stops at 23 businesses on Thursday, June 2, 6-8 pm!

The Grandview Heights Public Library Foundation proudly presents the 3rd Annual Grandview Chocolate Walk to benefit the Grandview Library Endowment Fund. The event also highlights Grandview’s outstanding, pedestrian-friendly business district.

  • Purchase tickets:
  • Each $25 ticket allows the holder to collect a chocolate treat at 23 Grandview merchants on a route from the library down First and Grandview Avenues.
  • Limited number of tickets available; ticket sales end when sold out or on Monday, May 30, whichever comes first.
  • ALL TICKETS will be picked up “will call” the afternoon/evening of the walk on Thursday, June 2. The walk is from 6-8 pm; tickets will be available at the library beginning at 4 pm. Each ticket will be on a lanyard and accompanied by a bag to help you collect treats.
